Staines Town 1
Hayes & Yeading United

It was a cold February night as Hayes & Yeading returned to Wheatsheaf Park to lock horns once again with Staines Town's reserve side, this time in a Capital League fixture.

It was to be an entertaining game with the action going from end to end with plenty of offsides and disallowed goals.

Hayes & Yeading took the lead in just the 4th minute when Sami El-Abd won the ball which dropped nicely to Richard Langley, he in turn hit a crossfield pass to Toby Little on the wing. Little then played a neat exchange with new signing Tom Woodbridge, the first shot was well blocked by the legs of Staines keeper James Courtnage but Woodbridge reacted quickest and shot home to put United ahead.

For the next 20 minutes United started to dominate the game with some free flowing football which showed the easiest way of finding your players. After this Staines started to get into the game and had two "goals" chalked off for offside while the game continued to flow from end to end but despite chances at each end the scoreline was not added to mainly thanks to some fine goalkeeping from United's Chris Baker.

Staines were on level terms straight away as from kick off the ball found Ali Chaaban on the left and his cross somehow looped over Baker and into the United net.

After the scores were levelled the game was going the same way as the first half with chance after chance for both sides, especially the Swans who had three efforts disallowed, on each occasion for offside.

Staines were pushing for the lead but found Baker in fine form making some excellent saves to keep the scores level before United took the lead on 63 minutes. Nathan Webb won the ball in his own half before switching the play to Alex Duffy on the opposite flank. Duffy's cross took a deflection off a Staines defender and flew up in the air with Toby Little reacting the quickest to slot past the advancing Courtnage to restore United's advantage.

Staines kept probing the Hayes & Yeading defence and despite several chances being created they could not find the killer finish even when United had to finish the game with ten men due to an injury to Josh Andrew with the solitary substitute already utilised.
