Hayes & Yeading United 3
Hemel Hempstead Town 1

Hayes & Yeading’s final Capital League fixture of the season saw an experimental side claim all three points against Hemel Hempstead Town to cement the runners-up spot.

The United side containing several trialist’s were into their stride early as Jermaine McGlashan raced away down the left before picking out Mark Doyle at the near post, his volley clearing the Hemel crossbar.

Minutes later a stray clearance was picked off by Tom Green who fed the ball forwards to Tommy Amos but his hastily fired shot was well off target. On 15 minutes the deadlock was broken and not surprisingly by Hayes & Yeading. Amos spread play to the left where the ball was picked up by McGlashan, the winger cut inside his marker before curling his shot past keeper Gareth Tinsley into the far corner.

Mark Doyle and Amos combined only for the latter’s shot to fly across the face of goal and then a couple of minutes later United were pegged back. A corner from the left was headed back across the box and looked to be running out of play before being well hooked back by Mitchell Weiss to the waiting Luke Abraham who beat Dexter Burt in the United goal from close range.

United were to regain the lead just before the break as McGlashan again worked his way inside from the left before beating Tinsley from the edge of the area, this time at his near post.

There was still time for Hemel to almost level again before the break when Louis Austin tried his luck from 25 yards, his effort just clearing Burt’s goal.

Again United started brightly in the second half. Substitute David Pitt sent McGlashan towards goal only for him to be cynically tripped just outside the area. Dean Wallace beat the defensive wall with the free-kick but Tinsley gathered well at his post. The keepers clearance however was picked off and within seconds the ball was at the feet of Pitt in the Hemel area and he made no mistake, coolly slotting the ball past the diving Tinsley.

Pitt again went close minutes later when he instantly controlled a Green cross only to be denied by Tinsley who dived to keep out the striker first time shot.

Burt was required at the other end to keep out a Tom Cullen free-kick that he himself had conceded on the edge of the box. While at the other end Pitt played the ball forwards into the path of fellow substitute Ashley Barnes who narrowly missed the target from just inside the box.

Wallace then hit a speculative drive from 20 yards that Tinsley was happy to claw around the post. The next goalmouth action came in the 90th minute when another substitute Josh Andrew’s centre was controlled by Pitt who hit a first time shot that missed the post by a coat of paint. The game had been soured a little a few minutes earlier when a poor tackle by Hemel substitute Shaun Biswell on Alex Duffy saw a straight red card for the visitor while Duffy also limped off leaving it at ten men each.
