Hayes & Yeading's attempt to win the Middlesex Premier Cup was halted at the final hurdle as Bedfont Sports ran out comfortable winners at Church Road after United had opened the scoring early on through Mark Doyle.

Hayes & Yeading, with an under strength side due to recent departures and England call-ups, started well against Combined Counties side Bedfont Sports. Mark Doyle went close in the 12th minute when he controlled the ball and hit a shot that former United keeper John Peacock held comfortably.

Just two minutes later Peacock was beaten. Toby Little chipped the ball ahead to Doyle who again took a solitary touch before firing goalwards, this time beating the Bedfont keeper into the bottom corner.

United continued to dominate and at this stage a quick second looked on the cards. Abdula Nsubuga fired a cross-field pass that Josh Andrew struck first time only to see the ball fly across the face of goal. Andrew was again on the run minutes later having been put through by Ashley Barnes, this time he was denied a shot by a fine interception by Bedfont skipper Sean Ryan.

Peacock then saved from Little before with virtually their first attack Bedfont equalised. A long throw from the right was allowed to bounce through to the far post where the ball was played back to Dean Greenwood in the centre and he smacked a shot that flew in off the upright.

This goal really changed the momentum of the game as the Sports became far more settled in their play and began to play the ball around with ease. Adam Turner sent Ricky Farnden clear on goal but Baker was quick enough to make a diving save. Seconds later Bedfont were ahead, a long throughball by Turner found troublesome striker Saman Kanani and with Baker off his line the striker coolly lofted the ball over his head into the vacant net.

The only remaining chance of the first period saw Baker again called into action, this time making a diving save from Greenwood after a knock down by Coombes.

The second half was to really be a non-event as the game was repeatedly stopped for niggling fouls with chances at a real premium, in fact one of the only highlights for United was a debut for first team Manager Garry Haylock, coming from the bench for the final quarter hour.

The closest to finding the net United came was just minutes after the re-start when Joe Gritt picked out Little with a sweeping long pass, the skipper flicked on to Tom Woodbridge but his shot was touched wide by Peacock.

Just before the hour mark the impressive Greenwood tried his luck from 25 yards, just missing the target and then with United chasing the game a quick pass from Kanani to Turner on the left saw the midfielder fire across the face of goal and while the ball looked to be going out of play a superb pull back found Kanani who rolled home his second from close range.
