Colin Davis’s reserves team pulled off an impressive victory over Zamaretto League Midlands Division side Aylesbury United as part of their pre-season programme.

On a bumpy pitch at Tring Corinthians, fluent football wasn’t easy, but Hayes & Yeading were able to create the first opportunity in just the 4th minute when Josh Andrew cut inside from the right before shooting straight at the home keeper Jack Sillitoe.

Nine minutes later, Andrew opened the scoring. Henry Attu’s precise volleyed pass to the right flank was seized upon by Andrew and although he seemed to drill the ball towards the centre for his team-mates, the ball squirmed underneath Sillitoe and into the far corner.

United went close with a quick free kick, and then from another, we found Jake Lovell who lost control on the turn only for Scott Orphanou to fire the loose ball against the post and the rebound too close to the keeper.

Hayes & Yeading took control. A rasping drive towards goal needed an excellent save to deny a goal. Then Andrew’s cross found Lovell at the back post but the forward mistimed his jump and although his header was on target it lacked the power to beat the keeper.

Just before half time, Aylesbury had their first meaningful effort on goal as the ball was worked towards the left hand channel, but a weak shot was fielded comfortably by Chris Baker.

It took Hayes & Yeading just 70 seconds after half time to double their advantage. Orphanou was dispossessed but Lovell got to the loose ball first and fired it past Sillitoe into the bottom corner.

The visitors made it three in the 63rd minute. Advancing through midfield, a block tackle sent the ball spinning high into the air but it landed fortuitously for Orphanou, who nevertheless took the opportunity well by volleying past the onrushing keeper.

Hayes & Yeading made several substitutions and Aylesbury had some chances to score a goal of their own, with their substitute hitting a post with a long range shot and substitute keeper Chris Muter being called upon to tip over a header. Jack Pattison was also needed to clear a header off the line and with the final kick of the game a great chance fell to their unmarked forward but he volleyed the ball wildly over the bar.
