Hayes & Yeading United 4
Arlesey Town 0

Arlesey Town came to Beaconsfield Road with a 100% Capital League record but it was Hayes & Yeading United who took the spoils with a dominating performance that gave the home side a 4-0 winning margin.

United started well and with ten minutes played Dan Mehmet played the ball neatly into the run of Yoon Hee Park who advanced on goal before seeing his shot kept out by the outstretched leg of Arlesey keeper Freddie Hester.

Park was again involved in United’s next threatening move when he received the ball on the left from Josh Andrew before picking out an unmarked Mehmet in the centre, the unmarked midfielder heading wide with just Hester to beat.

Park then had a 25 yard shot go just over the bar before a deflected Robert Gradwell cross fell to Andrew at the far post but his rushed volley was nearer the corner flag than the goal. The lead for United was just four minutes away and came from an unlikely source in the shape of centre-back Isidore Nandji. The defender controlled a clearance on halfway before advancing and letting fly from all of 35 yards, with a deflection looping the ball over Hester into the net.

Hayes & Yeading were soon once more on the attack, and this brought a second less than 60 seconds after the opener. Andrew found space on the right flank before playing the ball inside to Gradwell, the tall striker helped it on to Mehmet who coolly slid his effort past Hester’s dive.

Traffic was still going just the one way. Gradwell shrugged off his marker and rounded Hester before seeing his shot cleared off the line by Steve Redmond and just a couple of minutes later after good work from Yves Ndengue on the left and a sliced clearance from Leigh Harrington the ball fell to Gradwell who fired past Hester on the turn.

Despite a three goal cushion United pressed forwards with ever increasing regularity. Alex Duffy and Ndengue exchanged passes before finding Park in the centre, his shot was blocked straight to Andrew who fired wide of the target. Ndengue then broke between two defenders only to be thwarted by Hester and with the half almost over Hester had to be quick to hold onto a Park drive from 25 yards.

Not unexpectedly the second half was no so action packed, there was however time for United to bag a fourth just after the hour mark.

Six minutes of the second period had been played when Chris Baker’s goal was put under serious threat for the first time in the game. A swift counter attack found Tom Phillips on the left side of the area, he tried to loft the ball over the advancing Baker but the United custodian stood tall and reached up to catch his effort.

Minutes later Ndengue went close from 30 yards and then in the 66th minute a long ball from Jack Pattison saw Mehmet beat the offside trap before perfectly lobbing the ball over the advancing, and somewhat stranded, Hester.

With 15 minutes remaining Phillips tried his luck from the edge of the area but Baker was equal to his effort, the game seemed to peter out from that point and no further noteworthy chances were forthcoming.
