Hayes & Yeading United 7
Sandhurst Town 2

Hayes & Yeading United powered past Sandhurst Town on a rain soaked night at Beaconsfield Road, although they were made to work hard by the visitors and somewhat flattered by the scoreline.

Within three minutes United took the lead when Jack Todd played a neat one-two with Joakim Ehui and planted his shot into the bottom right corner. Ashley Barnes hit a free kick just over soon afterwards but Sandhurst showed some attacking intent, leaving United grateful for Matt Loomes’ anticipation in getting back to clear a deflected shot off the line.

Untied extended their lead on 17 minutes as Mark Goodman and Ehui combined and the latter drilled the ball in front of goal. Although a Sandhurst defender got the ball half clear, Jake Edmunds was lurking on the edge of the area to fire the ball through the crowd and into the corner.

Ehui and Edmunds’s good interchange of passing put Ashley Barnes clear but his shot was blocked by the Sandhurst keeper. However, Sandhurst got a foothold in the game with a terrific long shot that beat Tokarczyk all ends up.

Before half time, Ehui had a shot deflected inches over and from the resulting corner, Isaac Bonket headed the ball against the bar. Tokarczyk also impressed with a save from another long shot but United edged further in front as Todd beat his marker and squared the ball to Goodman who had a tap in.

Sandhurst again got back in the game seven minutes after the break when a deflected cross looped over Tokarczyk and a forward was on hand to score on the half volley from a tight angle. At this point, United came under some pressure and took some time to regain momentum.

It was through the dribbling of Barnes and Todd in particular where United were able to stretch Sandhurst again as chances were created for Edmunds who forced the keeper into a diving save from long range, and Todd himself as he weaved his way through only to be denied by a point blank save.

Unfortunately for the Sandhurst keeper, he gifted Untied a fourth goal by slicing a clearance straight to Ehui who controlled the ball and lobbed it back over his head.

It was 5-2 soon afterwards when Ehui laid the ball off to Ludovic Erhard whose shot took a wicked deflection, looping over the keeper and in.

Tokarczyk tipped a free kick just over and appeared to save a long shot from the same player in the 88 th minute, but a goal kick was awarded. While Sandhurst players were still contesting that decision, they failed to stop Reece Fleary finding Todd with a long ball. Todd finished with a classy lob but again, the Sandhurst players were aggrieved as he did appear to be offside by some distance.

United completed a somewhat harsh scoreline when Barnes put Todd through on goal and he rounded the keeper. However, before he could claim his hat-trick, Stephen Payne ghosted in to fire the ball home.
