Hayes & Yeading United 2
Chesham United 0

Hayes & Yeading United extended their lead at the top of the Allied Counties League Premier Division with a routine 2-0 win over relegation threatened Chesham United.

The match was very one sided from start to finish. In fact, Chesham only had one shot on target, a George House low shot which Rourke Pickford dived to smother. Fortunately for them, Hayes & Yeading weren’t in top gear either, although they comfortably cruised to victory.

In the 4th minute Ashley Barnes crossed for Daniel Wishart who mishit his shot and the ball spun wide. However, six minutes later, Josh Andrew opened the scoring by bursting past Jack Hatcher and planting his shot just inside the far post.

Wave after wave of attack came from the home team. Jack Todd’s trickery on the wing allowed him the space to centre the ball to Wishart whose shot came back off the inside of the post. Then Abdi Hamadi’s header from Barnes’s corner was unfortunately straight at Chesham keeper Tom Padget.

Charlie Wassmer found his range with his long passing and twice in quick succession he created chances for Ashley Barnes and Josh Andrew, the former hitting the side netting and the latter forcing Padget into a block.

The hosts continued to dominate. Barnes had a header from Andrew’s corner comfortably held by Padget before Hamadi had a similar chance from which he hit the bar, Wassmer was just over with the rebound.

A minute later, Todd laid the ball off to Wishart whose shot was smartly pushed away by Padget.

At the start of the second half, House had Chesham’s one effort on target but moments later, their spirit was crushed by a second Hayes & Yeading goal. Abdula Nsubuga showed neat footwork to keep the ball inside the area before squaring the ball to Wishart who had an easy tap into an empty net.

Later on, Todd set up Wishart whose shot was tipped wide by Padget. Then Todd himself had a shot at goal which was deflected wide by Robert Goldney. Chesham got into a good position in the 66th minute when an Andy Parker free kick caught out the home defence, but Ian Pugson skied his shot from ten yards out.

Substitute Ivan Dju made quite an impact when he came on, firing just across the face of goal before putting in a pinpoint cross which Andrew half volleyed inches wide.

A Wishart corner was headed goalwards by Nsubuga but good reactions from Padget denied the home skipper. Right at the end, Andrew beat two players on the right before crossing the ball and was disappointed to see his cross hit the post and come back out.
