Wealdstone 2
Hayes & Yeading United
1

Despite leading at the break, Colin Davis' Hayes & Yeading United reserve side exited from the Middlesex Premier Cup at Wealdstone for whom centre-forward Ben Alexander struck twice in as many minutes around the hour mark to give them a place in the Final.

United started well, Henry Attu had a early shot blocked and Andre Costa was just off target when he got on the end of an Ollie Fayed free-kick. In between times Alexander had fired across goal and wide for the home side. The Stones were soon on the attack again, Jamie O'Connell charged down a Simon Grant clearance attempt but he was denied from an acute angle as Grant recovered superbly to push the ball out for a corner.

United were soon back on the attack, Fayed saw a free-kick well handled by Stones keeper Sam Leggett and then a couple of minutes later Costa was found free at the far post by Malakai Bulley but the top scorer was wide of the target with his volley. The lead for United was only a few minutes away through when a cross come shot from Scott Orphanou on the right side looped over Leggett and nestled in the back of the home side's net.

As the half drew to its conclusion, the home side twice went close to leveling. Alexander crossed from the right to O'Connell who was denied by the fingertips of Grant who touched the ball around his post and then Mohammed Dikuiza was caught in possession by Javed Khan but his shot from 25 yards failed to trouble Grant.

Wealdstone made two half time substitutions no doubt in an effort to sharpen their forward play but it was actually United who started the half better. Orphanou nearly added a second but Leggett did well to push out his shot that Jack Duffy then cleared while less than a minute later Costa tried his luck from range but Leggett was equal to it.

Then a two minute spell brought a total turn around in fortunes for United as the home side scored not once, but twice. The equaliser came when Alexander was put through by a perfect Dan Lake pass, he outpaced Dikuiza before sliding the ball past the diving Grant. Buoyed by this, Stones were soon in the United box again. A cross from the left fell to Joe Stevens, he had two attempts, the first blocked by Aga Briandt and the second by a diving Grant, sadly for United the ball ran kindly to Alexander who could not miss from two yards out.

Ten minutes later United would have been level but for a superb double save by Leggett. Costa slid the ball into the path of Orphanou, Leggett pushed out his effort but the ball went straight to Costa who looked certain to score but for another Leggett save that put the ball out for a corner. That corner itself also caused mayhem in the Stones area, Leggett twice flapping the ball away, before his defence came to his assistanceby booting the ball to safety.

The final ten minutes still saw chances at either end. Grant had to be on his toes to grasp a Lake drive from all of 25 yards and shortly afterwards Alexander could have completed his hat-trick when clean through but he shot wide of Grant's upright.

Just a couple of minutes remained when Attu rolled the ball to Dikuiza but he fired straight at Leggett who tipped the shot over the crossbar. Seconds later an almost identical chance at the other end saw substitutes Sam Blennerhassett and Steven Eyango-Bwanga combine with the latter forcing a fine tip over from Grant.
