Hayes & Yeading United continued their pre-season programme with a convincing victory over BGB Premier Division side Swindon Supermarine deep in the Wiltshire countryside.

Hayes & Yeading made their presence felt very early on to take a stranglehold on the game. Within five minutes they were a goal ahead. A mazy run by left winger Leon Solomon led to a cross to striker Staforde Palmer. His lay off to Scott Fitzgerald teed up a fierce drive which cannoned off the crossbar. The ball was fired back in by Danny Allen-Page and diverted into the net by Palmer’s firm header.

Immediately after, Ash Edenborough sent a warning shot across Delroy Preddie’s boughs but United were soon back on the offensive with Solomon cutting inside and shooting just wide from twenty yards.

Ram Marwa, who was a thorn in Swindon Supermarine’s side all evening went close with a header which he just had to stretch too much for, rounding off a fine move involving Steven Gregory and Allen-Page but again United were close to losing their lead when Chris Taylor latched onto Edenborough’s square ball and fired just wide from outside the area.

It was a great move which led to Marwa claiming a deserved goal to double United’s advantage on 28 minutes. After a whole string of passes involving most of the United side, Allen-Page fed the ball to Fitzgerald whose snapshot was blocked, however, Marwa was on hand to drill the ball home from the edge of the area into the far bottom corner.

Matty Bulman in the Swindon goal produced a fine save to deny Gregory from an ambitious long range volley and Preddie topped that at the other end with a fine block from Mark Draycott after the home forward had dispossessed Mohammed Dikuiza.

Swindon improved after the break but failed to create any clear cut chances against a well marshalled home defence. United broke on 63 minutes when Palmer latched onto Kieran Knight’s throughball but Bulman stood up well and blocked his shot. A minute later, Marwa again just missed with a glancing header from a Gregory cross.

With 14 minutes remaining, Swindon’s Leigh Henry tested Preddie’s handling with a dipping free kick but the United keeper was up to the challenge.

United finished the game strongly despite making a flurry of substitutions which introduced four of last year’s FEDO squad. One of those, Ollie Fayed, combined well with Palmer to set him up for a low finish which Bulman did well to block. Another, Daniel Mehmet latched onto Knight’s clever reverse pass but just overran the ball at the crucial moment and Bulman was alert enough to advance and gather the ball.

But United were not to be denied a third. Kieran Knight did ever so well to hold off the last defender before planting a firm shot past Bulman into the bottom left hand corner.
