Hayes & Yeading United 5
Hanwell Town 2

Hayes and Yeading United started their pre-season warm-up with a comfortable win on the Rosedale 3G against Hanwell Town with experienced trialist Scott Fitzgerald helping himself to a hat-trick.

United took just 8 minutes to open the scoring when a forward ball from Steve Perkins was deliberately left by Staforde Palmer which allowed his strike partner to run on and beat the keeper for the first of his three goals.

Palmer himself soon had the ball in the net but was ruled offside while the Hanwell keeper did well to hold a Will Hendry drive from the edge of the area. Hanwell enjoyed a five minute spell of pressure around the half hour mark as firstly Aaron Howe did well to save at the strikers feet while two shots from inside the area whistled just wide of the United goal.

With 36 minutes played Palmer chased and won the ball in the corner before firing a near post cross that saw Fitzgerald nip in front of his marker to touch home. The last chance of the half fell to Hanwell but again Howe did well to gather at the strikers feet.

Hanwell hit United within three minutes of the re-start when a throughball to the lively striker saw him beat Howe having moved around the keeper. The visitors goal was a catalyst that awoke United as they were to hit them three times in just seven minutes. Fitzgerald firstly turned provider as he found Steven Gregory who took a touch and fired home from ten yards and then just two minutes later Fitzgerald completed his hat-trick by firing into the corner from 20 yards. On the hour it was 5-1 as Hendry received from Josh Scott and placed his shot into the bottom corner.

Chances still mounted for United although no more goals came, Gregory twice saw efforts pushed around the post, Scott held off two challenges only for the keeper to close down his shot and centre-back Tom Cadmore saw a 30 yard rocket smack back off the upright.

Five minutes remained when Hanwell scored an almost identical goal to their first, this time their substitute rounded Howe and rolled the ball into the empty net.
