Hayes & Yeading United's winning run may be over but not for want of trying as the home side were battered from start to finish at Woodside Park but credit must be given to the hosts for the stubborn way they went about their task of keeping the division's in form side at bay.

Manager Garry Haylock made one change to his starting line-up by bringing in Steve Perkins in place of the rested Matt Ruby, and indeed it was Perkins who had enough chances to have won three games on his own, being thwarted by both keeper and woodwork in the first half alone.

The first half in fact was to be the Dale Binns show as the United wide man gave Bishop's full-back Matt Jones a torrid time down the flank. As early as the fourth minute Perkins rose unchallenged to meet a Binns corner but unusually he was off target. Binns was soon racing past Jones again, this time his low driven cross was cut out in the six yard box by Marlon Patterson as Ram Marwa arrived.

Midway through the half Delroy Preddie was forced into his only real save of the game, Danny Green fed the ball from the centre to Lewis Smith but his drive from outside the area was pushed away by the diving left hand of the United stopper. Within a minute United went even closer, Binns again fired in a corner from the right, once again Perkins got his head to the ball, this time his goalbound effort was tipped onto the bar by Nicky Eyre before the ball fell to Hendry on the edge of the area but his shot was charged down.

Just past the half hour mark Binns again skinned Jones on the left only for his near post cross aimed for Josh Scott to be slid away by defender Stevland Angus. As the half drew to its conclusion, United had three more chances to take the lead. Perkins header from a Hendry corner was headed off the line by Danny Harris with Eyre beaten and then an interchange between Hendry and Scott saw the former beat Eyre to the ball but his effort at a stretch was toed wide of the goal.

Then right on the whistle a Hendry free-kick from 25 yards, with the wall paced to about seven yards, was tipped around the post by a full length Eyre dive.

As the first had finished so did the second begin as Scott was put through by Hendry after just 47 seconds, his cross goal drive being pushed away by the diving Eyre. Still United pressed for the opener, Gary MacDonald crossed from the left and Marwa arrived to volley wide closely followed by a chance for MacDonald himself as he got on the end of a Binns centre but could not hit the target.

The home side did have a couple of chances midway through the half themselves, the first a drive from Green appeared to strike a teammate and then Jamie Lindie fired across the face but well wide of the far post. Preddie then almost turned provider for United when his long punt was neatly flicked on by Fitzgerald to Scott who arrived at the same time as Eyre but the ball squirmed away to safety.

Still chances were coming for United, Binns hit a rasping drive that took a deflection before hitting the top of the crossbar and then a half cleared throw ended up back with James Mulley but his first time effort was comfortably handled by Eyre. Scott then went close again before a last minute Esmond James cross was met by Perkins on the penalty spot, his looping header being helped over the goal by the fingertips of Eyre.
