Tonight’s fixture saw Hayes and Yeading United entertain Bisley in the Allied Counties Premier League, and thus provided them with the opportunity to vanquish the memories of the early cup exit they suffered two weeks ago at the hands of Croydon.

United looked to be heading for defeat again when the visitors were leading 2-0 heading into injury time, but, a stunning strike from Esmond James and a brace on debut for Anthony Boyer in injury time maintained the home sides 100% league record.

From the outset it was clear that whoever could out battle there opponents in the midfield would have the advantage in this game and Bisley certainly had the advantage in the opening 20 minutes.

The opening chance of the game fell to Bisley’s centre forward Isaac Sedu who was first to react to a misplaced pass but his shot was deflected wide for the games opening corner. Eric Kusi jumped well to get his head on the resulting corner, but his well placed looping effort was cleared of the line by the defender on the post.

Sedu had another glorious chance to give the visitors the lead when United’s defence failed to clear the ball but his well struck low drive was wide of the post.

Hayes had to wait until the 15 th minute for there first chance when Daniel Mehmet was brought down 25 yards from goal. However, Mohammed Bashley wasted the chance to test the keeper when his free kick was well wide.

After a sluggish opening period of play from the home, they started to find the gears when Michael Bryan played a 1-2 with Mehmet, and then layed the ball back to the edge of the box for James but he took to long over the shot allowing the defenders to get the block in. The resulting corner could have given the home side the advantage when Bisley captain Andy Massey dangerously flicked the ball just wide of his own post for another corner.

United should have taken the lead in the 27 th minute when Bryan latched onto a free ball after Rob Parrott had given possession away. Bryan took the ball around the keeper and again layed it back to Bashley this time, who’s effort struck the post when he was presented an open goal.

Hayes and Yeading Keeper Matthew Faley was forced to make his first save of the game a minute later when Sedu’s riffled effort was struck right at him. Minutes later Sedu looked to have scored with a strong header to the top corner, but Bashley rose just enough off the ground to deflected the ball over the bar.

In the 31st minute Bisley allowed a Hayes corner to travel right along the six yard box to Aga Brianidt at the far post whose low effort was well blocked by keeper Sam Collier. The rebound also fell to Brianidt, but this time his effort was to high and rose over the bar.

Seconds later, and Bisley gave possession away at the back again, this time to Hasib Saeed, whose cut back came to Mehmet but his curling effort was just wide of the post.

Either side could have considered themselves unlucky not to go in at half time without scoring, but both sides were guilty of a lack of composure when striking on goal.

United got off to the worst possible start when a high free kick was met by the head of Luke Beale, whose looping header was too high for Faley to reach, and nestled into the back of the net to give the visitors the lead in the 51st minute.

Before the restart there was concern for Faley who needed ten minutes of treatment from physio Chris Richardson before gingerly declaring himself okay to continue after it appeared he collided with the post in an attempt to reach Beale’s header.

When the game eventually restarted United looked to reply immediately when Bryan’s fizzed in ball across the box was missed by everyone. However, there troubles were made worse 5 minutes later when Josh Watkins crossed to ball to an unmarked Sedu at the back post, and he acrobatically volleyed the ball over the diving Faley to double the visitors lead.

The home side seemed shell shocked to have gone 2-0 down and changes in personnel were made. United were to complaisant until James and Anthony Boyer both had chances in the 80 th minute to give the players the belief they needed if there were going to get anything out of the game.

James was presented another chance 8 minutes later when he latched onto a through ball but his chipped shot over the oncoming keeper went the wrong side of the post. Bashley was presented another open goal in the 1 st minute of injury time when Collier rushed off his line and missed ball and player, but Massey just got back to challenge before Bashley could strike.

Bisley’s nerves were beginning to show when Collier needed two attempts to save a long range effort from James, but, in the 94 th minute he could do nothing to prevent James’ beautifully struck, curling effort from landing in the top corner after he cut inside from the wing beating two defenders. 2-1.

Three minutes later, and James cut the defence open again this time with a through ball to Bryan who played in debutant Boyer to strike home from 10 yards to equalise. 2-2 in the 98 th minute, and Bisley were in dismay.

United rounded off an outstanding come back in the 99 th minute of play when Bisley tried to play the offside trap after Mehmet had chipped the ball over the top leaving Boyer on his own in the box, 1-on-1 with the keeper. Boyer showed great nerve and composure to place the ball past Collier for his second and wrap up the points.

Some would argue that United didn’t deserve to take all three points, and most would have to feel sorry for the Bisley outfit, but nevertheless, Hayes and Yeading remain unbeaten in league competition this year, and have already opened up a three point lead over the competition.
