Hayes & Yeading United 0
Ashford Town (Middx) 3

Despite being on top for much of the match, Dean Critchfield’s under 18s side lost their first Southern Counties League match at home to a physically strong Ashford Town (Middlesex side) thanks to three late goals.

United could have scored with their first attack in the first minute when a clearance ricocheted off Josh Andrew into the six yard box but the ball just wouldn’t go in amidst the ensuing scramble.

Ollie Fayed tested the visiting goalkeeper Buss with a long range shot whilst at the other end, Matthew Faley did well to gather in Warren Harris’s fierce shot.

In the second half, United started well and looked like going ahead when Hasib Saeem broke clear with just the keeper to beat, but was unfortunate to see his shot rise just too high over the bar.

Ashford Town (Middlesex) seemed physically strong and this told as the second half wore on. They’d already hit the bar with a long shot before Harris got in behind the defence on 72 minutes and slotted the ball in under Faley.

Eight minutes later, direct from a free kick, the visitors doubled their lead and in injury time, they put a rather flattering complexion on the scoreline with a third tapped into the bottom corner after a goalmouth scramble.
