Farnborough 1

United's table topping youngsters took on second placed Farnborough at Church Road and despite having the bulk of the possession only came away with a point as Esmond James cancelled out an early david Finnegan strike.

Just six minutes had passed when the visitors struck at the heart of the United defence, Jamel Forde-Small playing a perfect through ball to Finnegan on the right and he advanced towards Matthew Faley's goal before firing home through the stoppers legs.

Less than ten minutes later it could have been worse for the home side as Lee Bucknall poked the ball past Faley only for James Walters to come across and clear the ball away from the United goal line.

The 20th minute saw United hit a deserved equaliser, Dan Mehmet started the move that saw him find Jake Lovell who neatly sent James through on goal and the top scorer duly rounded keeper Ashley East and fired into the roof of the vacant net.

While United continued to have lots of the ball, efforts from James (twice), Ashley Barnes and Mohammed Bashley failed to test East while at the other end Faley did well to spread himself to block away a shot from Jordan Pembroke.

The second half continued in the same vein with United seeing most of the ball in the 'Borough half without finding the shots to test East. Barnes rounded East but ran out of space before Mehmet was inches wide from 20 yards. Bashley then saw a shot from the edge of the area deflected over with Mehmet being just too high with his header from the corner.

Fifteen minutes remained when Faley was again needed to prevent United going behind, Forde-Small sent Pembroke through but the United keeper again did well to spread himself and save with his legs.

A single late chance came to both sides as Daniel Herbert fired over for Farnborough before Lovell arrived at a Mehmet centre but connected too well and the ball went over the bar.
