Hayes & Yeading United 2
Amersham Town 1
Half-Time: 1-0 Referee: Mr S Rea Attendance: 12

CD's reserve side continued their winning pre-season with a 2-1 victory over Amersham Town in Saturday's noon kick off at Rosedale College.

The visitors created the first chance when latching onto an excellent throughball but John Peacock was swiftly off his line and spread himself to save with his legs. Minutes later Adam Cornell set up his strike partner Chris Lapierre who saw his shot palmed around the post by the Amersham keeper.

Within minutes Cornell was again instrumental in the build up, this time to the opening goal as Erhard Seho moved onto his chipped pass before slotting past the diving keeper.

United continued to push forwards, a huge Miles Jones clearance from his own area saw Cornell challenge the keeper in the air and Lapierre was only inches wide with his first time volley. Next to go close was Emmanuel Sackey who saw his 25 yard drive crash back off the angle of post and bar.

Peacock saved smartly as the break approached before Cornell rose above the keeper to meet a Jones corner only to once again see the ball come back into play off the crossbar.

The second period started slowly and it took a full 25 minutes before a chance was created, this being a shot from 20 yards from Amersham that took a deflection sending a looping ball into Peacock's top corner for an equaliser. The scores were only level for three minutes though, as two United substitutes combined to re-establish United's lead as Saul Otobo rose at the far post to head home Junior Howell's centre.

Lapierre was then to be denied by the post before the same player chested the ball down and struck a shot on the turn that was saved. Otobo again went close in the final stages, this time after good work by another substitute Dwain Patrice. The final chance fell to the gaffer himself as Colin Davis threw himself full stretch at a Patrice centre but failed to connect, old age or not tall enough.....you decide!!!
