Basingstoke Town 1

Half-Time: 0-3 Referee: J Lengthorn
Hayes & Yeading United Reserves fielding a very young side demolished a Basingstoke Town side that won last seasons Surburban League Premier Division.

This game started very nervously but both sides did well up until the final thirds, with finishing a major problem.

That was until the 27th minute when a through ball from Rhys Price found under 18s striker Esmond James running through and lobbing his first goal over the keeper to put United ahead.

Just six minutes later, United won the ball back in midfield and a perfect throughball from Malachi Bulley found another of the clubs under 18s in Jake Lovell who used his pace before shooting under the body of the Basingstoke keeper to double the visitors advantage.

United's youthful side were still hungry for more and after some excellent work down the right wing from Esmond James they found a third as Malachi Bulley was set up for a simple tap in on 42 minutes.

Within two minutes of the restart, good work from Ollie Fayed down the left wing saw him cut inside and find Rhys Price on the edge of the box and he was able to fire past the Basingstoke keeper and put United 4-0 up.

The home side finally started to rally and got what ended as a consolation goal from Jermiah Medford on 54 minutes as he shot past Kevin Davies into the corner of the net. Esmond James got his second goal just after the hour after a sweeping United move left him to race through the Basingstoke defence to receive a lofted pass from Emmanuel Sackey and he comfortably slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 5-1.

As the game was coming to an end Basingstoke had Warren Cunningham sent off for an off the ball incident with Donnell Allen which only the linesman saw.

Colin Davis and his team are very proud of what they saw today and hope more players from the Allied Counties side will be given the opportunity to progress or to be involved with the reserves this season.
