Hayes and Yeading United bowed out of the FA Cup with a whimper at York Road this afternoon as the visitors got exactly what they deserved, nothing.

It could all have started so differently though as just 70 seconds had been played when Danny Allen-Page and Liam Collins connected on the right with the latter picking out Kieran Knight at the far post but his header was palmed down and gathered by Louis Wells, the only save he had to make all afternoon!

The Magpies were soon putting the visitors defence under pressure, Darti Brown fired across goal and wide while Delroy Preddie did well to tip over a Serge Makofo drive from a very acute angle. For H&Y, Steve Perkins rose to meet a Nevin Saroya free-kick but his header was two feet over Wells crossbar.

With 24 minutes played, James Mulley came to our rescue when Dwane Lee powerfully met a right sided corner only for Mulley to head off the line with Preddie beaten, the follow up shot from Errol Telemaque being charged down by Perkins. The respite didn't last long though as Makofo found space on the right and crossed towards Manny Williams who had not been picked up and he rose to power a header through Preddie's fingertips and in off the crossbar.

Minutes later Williams was again on the rampage as he outpaced Saroya and his driven cross was pushed wide by Preddie. The resultant corner was met by Lee but he could not keep his effort down.

The start of the second period gave H&Y a glimpse at goal as a Collins cross was helped on by Saroya to Knight, he held of his marker before firing across Wells and agonisingly wide of the upright. Sadly this was to be the closest we were to come while Preddie proved unbeatable at the other end thus keeping the score almost respectable.

Ten minutes into the half Williams went on the dribble across the United area and was only prevented from getting his at Preddie by a sliding Calum Botham challenge, the ball running free to Telemaque whose effort was blocked over the bar by Cadmore.

Midway through the half, with H&Y making very little inroad to the Magpies defence it was Preddie once more in action. Lee Newman found space and advanced into the area only to see Preddie dive full stretch to push his drive around the upright.

Fifteen minutes from the end we saw the last chance of the game and not surprisingly it fell to the home side. Williams turned Nick Beasant and moved along the byeline before firing goalwards from the acutest of angles, forcing another tip over from Preddie.

And just as British Summer Time ends today, so did Hayes & Yeading United's FA Cup run, sadly both will be totally unspectacular.
