Uniteds first mascot Ben Stephens with skipper Nev SaroyaHayes and Yeading United made an impressive start in the first "real" friendly of this pre-season scoring a 3-0 victory over a youthful Charlton Athletic side that included impressive winger Martin Christensen, a £250,000 summer capture from Danish club Herfolge.

United started well, taking an eighth minute lead through Kieran Knight. KnightThe Gaffer, Garry Haylock himself fed the ball to James Edgerley on the left flank and the wide man advanced towards the byeline before returning it to Knight who fired past Calum Christie in the Addicks goal.

Danny Uchechi curled an effort wide of Kevin Davies goal and at the other end Christie was well placed to hold a Liam Collins volley after an excellent wide run and cross by Michael Barima. The first sight of Christensen's pace came on eighteen minutes when he raced away on the right wing before moving into the area only to fire into the side netting.

25 minutes had passed when full-back Danny Allen-Page played a throughball into Edgerley's run, the winger took the ball around Christie but in trying to squeeze it into the net found his head connecting rather loudly with the upright and this was for obvious reasons to be his last contribution, to make matters worse the ball had rolled wide.

Five minutes later United did find a second goal, Allen-Page again made advances from the back before Kieran heads home number twosending Simon Martin through against Christie. The striker having been forced wide had the presence of mind to roll the ball back to Allen-Page who saw his strike blocked on the line with Knight following up to head his second of the game (pictured right).

Ruairi Harkin saw his curling effort stopped by a diving Davies and Knight should have completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards as he moved onto a superb Liam Collins throughball, sadly his rushed effort screwed wide of the target.

As the game entered what was to be nine minutes of stoppage time, James Walker burst past Nevin Saroya only to be denied by Davies who was sharply off his line and then with eight minutes stoppage time played, Martin edged his way into the area only to be tripped, skipper Saroya stepped up and calmly slotted home the spot kick.

Simon Martin on the attackThe second half was to have minimal action compared to the first with the first chance coming with a full hour of the game played, Knight finding substitute Steve McNamara who saw his effort saved by Christie. Within a minute the Addicks could have been back in the game, Christensen again caused problems down the right flank, before finding Walker in the area who was only denied a shooting chance by a well timed Allen-Page tackle. Still the visitors ran at the United defence, Harkin embarking on a mazy dribble that sadly for him ended with a shot that was well wide of the target.

With eleven minutes of the contest remaining, a surge upfield by centre-Kieran on the ballback Orlando Jeffrey saw him lay off the ball to substitute Adam Cornell but sadly his effort was wildly wide of the target. Three minutes remained on the referees watch when the visitors earned a chance for a consolation as Liam Collins tripped Uchechi just inside the area and a spot kick was awarded. Walker stepped up to take the kick only for Davies to guess correctly and palm the kick to safety.

All in all a good work out for Garry's side and a good chance for the fans of the new club to see what the future could hold for United.
