*** U ***
Only two players whose name starts with the letter U have played for Hayes, making it the least popular letter of all except X and Z, where there are no entries. The first in time was Gerry Underwood. A diminutive outside-right, he had already played for Southall for six seasons, joining them at the age of 16, before he moved to Hayes in October 1961. He had already won representative honours with Middlesex, London and the Athenian League and was at one time thought to be close to amateur international honours. He remained at Hayes for two seasons, making 74 appearances and scoring 22 goals, and even went into goal against Finchley when Bill Farlam was injured in May 1963. He joined Finchley in the summer of 1963 and later played for Wembley. |
