Only two players whose name starts with the letter U have played for Hayes, making it the least popular letter of all except X and Z, where there are no entries. The first in time was Gerry Underwood. A diminutive outside-right, he had already played for Southall for six seasons, joining them at the age of 16, before he moved to Hayes in October 1961. He had already won representative honours with Middlesex, London and the Athenian League and was at one time thought to be close to amateur international honours. He remained at Hayes for two seasons, making 74 appearances and scoring 22 goals, and even went into goal against Finchley when Bill Farlam was injured in May 1963. He joined Finchley in the summer of 1963 and later played for Wembley.

Obinna ‘Beano’ Ulasi spent most of his time at Hayes in the reserves as understudy to left-back Lee Flynn. During the whole of 1994-5 he made 1+1 appearances and in August 1995 he went to Staines Town, but came back. His big chance came in the Conference, when Flynn sustained a long-term injury. He made a further six appearances and seemed to be coping fairly well, but manager Terry Brown obviously thought otherwise and he left for Maidenhead United, where he stayed as long as Alan Devonshire. When Devonshire joined Hampton & Richmond, Obinna followed him.
