Twenty-nine players whose names start with the letter ‘E’ have played for Hayes. But most of them have played very few games, so this letter will not take us long to traverse.

Steve Emmanuel was a midfielder of many clubs. Starting with Watford, he spent most of his career (1979-88) at Harrow, with a brief stint at Staines, before joining Hayes in November 1988. He stayed for two seasons, making 69+7 appearances and scoring five goals, and gaining representative honours from the Isthmian League, and later played for Chesham, Harlow Town, Maidenhead and Harrow again. He went into management with Northwood and, briefly, with Chesham United.

Adam Everitt was a former Luton Town defender who came to Hayes from Harrow Borough in the summer of 2003 and stayed a full two seasons making 88+1 appearances and scoring six goals before moving down the road to Yeading.

Finally, David Everitt was one of the most frustrating players of the Conference era. He came from Staines Town in March 2000 as a svelte left-sided midfielder, who had an ability to beat defenders and a cocky confidence, which we had not seen all season. He played a considerable part in helping Hayes to avoid relegation. During the last Conference season, however, he spent long periods unavailable through injury, and when he did make a come-back against Dagenham at Christmas, he looked overweight, scored a cracking goal and received an injury from which he never recovered. During his time at Hayes he made 16+11 appearances and scored four goals. He reminded me of an outside-left from the amateur days, who was there to enjoy his football. He returned to Staines, and was injured in the pre-match session of the first game of the 2002-3 season and had to be substituted!
